Alex Bell’s first experiments with drugs and alcohol started when his age was still in single digits. For nearly a decade Alex’s life careened along the downward spiral of drug addiction and alcoholism.
Six days after his twenty-first birthday Alex Bell started over, sober.
Alex Bell is a motivational, realistic and funny speaker. His recent notoriety involved his appearance on the sixth season of the show Survivor: The Amazon, at which time his value and charm were identified immediately. His struggle with drugs and alcohol, followed by this lifelong commitment to sobriety began long before this experience.
His most recent endeavor involves targeting high schools and after school programs in an attempt to provide a positive voice in the minds of impressionable youth. The message that Alex sends is “thrive, not just survive,” which goes beyond drug and alcohol prevention and addresses decision making in everyday life encounters.
REALITY TV: SURVIVOR 6
Alex Bell: As you may or may not know Survivor Amazon is starting in South Africa at the end of July. In case you didn’t catch the preview, click here. Now, I got it in my head to start a preview series of sorts, by introducing you to the characters of the show. The Survivor contestants. The cool and groovy thing about this is that if you follow the previews you’ll have a sense of who the people are when the show starts, and a resource to refer to.
You’ll know their names and a little bit about them, so you don’t have to spend the first three episodes doing this. They’ll be introduced in alphabetical order according to their first name, because that’s how you get to know them. So, today, you can meet contestant one.
Alex Bell. This is him. Good white teeth and bushy brows. To remember his name with his face … think… Alexander the Great might have had bushy eyebrows. Cryptic I know, but maybe it will help.
Anyway, this Alex is one of those sorts of contestants whose been in every profession by the age of 32. It astounds me, really it does. I mean he studied communications at Langley, was a fundraiser for leukemia, worked in communications at Dreamworks (Spielberg’s spot), and now trains people for triathlons! Interesting, not so?
How he got from communications to triathlons I haven’t a clue, but I find it astounding that you can actually have a profession for such a thing. The fact that there are so many crazy peeps out there who like to torture themselves is mindboggling. If he trains them as a profession it obviously means there’s a demand. Do you know how mad a triathlon is!? It’s not enough for them to run. No. They gotto cycle and swim too. Usually an entire day.
