Johanan Bein served as the Vice Chairman of Yad Vashem, The Holocaust Martyrs and Heroes Remembrance Authority.
Prior to his position there, he served as Ambassador and Deputy Director General for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He was in charge of four divisions: the United Nations, human rights, and international and political organizations.He has served as a member of the Planning and Negotiating Team on Israel’s M.I.A s, and Co-Chairman of Israel’s Delegation to the Middle East Peace Negotiations.
He was an Ambassador to the United Nations, and he was the Deputy Permanent Representative to the U.N. He has also served as Division of International Affairs Director of the Center for Intelligence and Planning for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In addition, he has served as Minister in charge of Information & Press for German speaking countries for the Embassy of Israel.
Bein was the Deputy Director of African Affairs, and the Ambassador to the Dominican Republic and Jamaica. Bein worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Under home service, he worked for the Division of Archives, Communication, Information / Organization of International Fairs & Exhibits, European Affairs and African Affairs.
In foreign service, he worked for Embassies in Finland, Norway, Tanzania and Washington, D.C. There, he made periodic missions to the United Nations General Assembly in New York, to various international organizations and conferences, and to special bilateral and multilateral missions to negotiations in Europe, the United States, Latin America, Asia and Africa. He served as Special Political Assistant to the Director General in the Prime Minister’s Office.
Speaks Hebrew, English, German, Spanish, reads French and understands Arabic.
