Dwight E. Stones, Sports Illustrated, premier writer, Frank Deford, dubbed him, “The Mouth That Soars”, because he both flew over the high bar in competition, and spoke articulately about a variety of issues. Dwight Stones has continued his outspoken nature with a career in television broadcasting, sharing his expertise in the world of athletic competition, while expanding into the arena of business.

His athletic credentials are impressive. Ten times he set the World Record in the High Jump. He won Bronze medals, Olympic Games. He made his unprecedented third Olympic team when he set his 13th American Record to win the Olympic Trials.

During his 16 year career, he won an incredible 19 National Championship titles. He was twice voted World Indoor Athlete of the Year, by Track & Field News, and remains history’s All-Time #1 Ranked American High Jumper.

He was inducted into the United States Track & Field Hall of Fame.

Dwight was the first athlete to both announce and compete in the same Olympic Games when he worked for ABC’s broadcast. He has concentrated his efforts on a career in television. He has been a color analyst, host and play by play announcer for NBC, ABC, CBS, and ESPN, as well as numerous local and national cable outlets, covering sporting events around the world. Dwight has been on broadcast teams for the Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles, Seoul, Barcelona, Atlanta, Sydney and Athens. He conducted on air interviews for the Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City and in Torino.

Dwight was an integral part of NBC’s ,World Track and Field Championships coverage from Seville, Spain that won an Emmy for “Best Live Event Turnaround.”

Dwight has been diversifying his television assignments to concentrate more effort on becoming a host/play by play announcer. Aside from his work in track & field, he has done play by play on: tennis, baseball, badminton, gymnastics, volleyball, boxing, wrestling, and marathons.

Dwight hosted the coverage of the track and field portion of the 2000 Paralympic Games from Sydney, further establishing himself as one of the pioneers in this new entertainment and information technology.

He realized his ability to inspire people to reach out for greater results in their own personal and professional lives.

Dwight was elected as one of the three Vice-Presidents of the prestigious U.S. Olympians Association.

Through his service he will be able to pass along much of his knowledge and experience learned as a result of many years in the media which will hopefully result in a higher profile for some of America’s “diamond in the rough” athletes in Olympic sports.
