Colonel Larsen is one of the most respected experts and well-known speakers on the subject of homeland security, but he is not an alarmist. In fact, his best known sound bite is just the opposite, “The greatest threat to the American homeland is not al Qaeda; it is over-reaction by the government and the American people.” Millions of Americans have heard and appreciated his message. During the anthrax crisis of 2001, Larry King had him on every night because, “Colonel Larsen was able to calm the fears and provide practical advice.” He is the co-host of public radio’s Homeland Security: Inside and Out and a frequent guest on radio and television including: CBS, NBC, ABC, PBS, CNN, BBC, Fox News Channel, Oprah and Larry King Live. He has been on contract with CBS News as their homeland security and terrorism consultant. His recent speeches include: Oracle Client Seminar, Microsoft Sales Managers Meeting, Young Presidents Organization, North American Cargo Security Forum, Council on Foreign Relations, Licensing Executive Society Annual Conference, 4th National Risk Management Symposium, and the International Institute of Strategic Studies (London). He was one of the first witnesses asked to testify before the 9-11 Commission and is a frequent expert witness for the US Congress. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Colonel Larsen served for 32 years in both the Army and Air Force. His flying career began as a 19 year old Cobra pilot in the 101st Airborne Division. He flew 400 combat missions in Vietnam. He also served as the commander of America’s fleet of VIP aircraft at Andrews AFB MD. Previously, he served as the Founding Director of the Institute for Homeland Security and the Chairman of the Department of Military Strategy and Operations at the National War College.
