Edward T. O’Donnell, Ph.D., is a historian and author. He is a Professor of History specializing in the Gilded Age and Progressive Era, Theodore Roosevelt, immigration, social reform movements, and American wars.

His history-themed presentations examine the history behind some of the most significant challenges facing the United States today, including immigration, war, inequality, the role of government, and technological advancements.

He also offers presentations on leadership (focusing on US presidents), the Constitution, and the Founding Fathers.

O’Donnell is the author of five books, including.

The Pullman Strike: A Gilded Age Clash between Labor, Capital, and Government;

Henry George and the Crisis of Inequality: Progress and Poverty in Gilded Age America ;

Visions of America: A History of the United States;

Ship Ablaze: The Tragedy of the Steamboat General Slocum

O’Donnell is a featured historian in many historical documentaries and programs on PBS, History Channel, Discovery Channel, and Netflix. Recent examples include “Theodore Roosevelt”, “FDR”, “How Disney Built America”, “Wyatt Earp and The Cowboy War”, and “The Gilded Age”.

O’Donnell also contributes historical insight to the media, appearing recently in features about the Gilded Age on ABC, CBS, and NPR, and writing history-themed op-eds for publications such as Newsweek, The New York Times, and The Washington Post.

He hosted the popular US history podcast “In The Past Lane.”. He has also curated several major museum exhibits on American history.

O’Donnell created lectures on American history, “Turning Points in American History” and “America in the Gilded Age and Progressive Era”.
