On Thanksgiving weekend, Jackie Nink Pflug – a special education teacher at the Cairo American School – was returning to Cairo after spending the weekend in Athens, Greece. Ten minutes after her flight left Athens, Egypt Air #648 was hijacked by three terrorists.
Like four hostages before her, Jackie was shot in the head, at point blank range, execution style, thrown from the plane onto the tarmac and left for dead on the runway in the airport in Malta.For five hours, she drifted in and out of consciousness until an airport grounds crew retrieved her body on its way to the morgue.
Miraculously, Jackie survived.
The hijacking of Egypt Air #648 turned into history’s deadliest airline attack. Fifty-nine passengers died during the ordeal.
Jackie’s incredible story is one of of hardship, healing and personal transformation. Her survival and her message of strength and coping skills, have inspired thousands of people to set a new direction and focus on key aspects of living their lives to a full potential.
