These efforts included improving compound security in Afghanistan, assisting the organization’s return to Libya, and facilitating various successful evacuations of senior staff following emergencies.

3) Collaborated with senior corporate advisory organizations, including some of the world’s largest multinational companies, on market-entry strategies and stakeholder engagement.

James has published widely, including regularly in Jane’s Intelligence Review and Foreign Policy, as well as several leading think tanks.

He has contributed his writing and research to the Western Hemisphere Drug Commission, which published a report for senior policymakers in the USA.

He is currently working on and writing about a range of emerging risk-related projects and resilience strategies.

James has provided expert comment on security issues to a range of media outlets, including the BBC, Channel 4 News (UK) and CBC (Canada). He has spoken at large conferences on international security and preparation, including for the World Affairs Forum, Global Interagency Security Forum, and the New York and DC Analysts’ Roundtables.

James holds a Master of Arts degree in International Relations from the University of St Andrews in Scotland and in Near and Middle Eastern Politics (with distinction) from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London.

James in Turkey conducted interviews with Syrian, Iraqi, and Afghan refugees fleeing into Europe as part of the International Rescue Committee’s preparation for what became the European Refugee Crisis.

He helped advise the organization in setting up programs and advocating on behalf of the refugees to international governments.

He was in Northern Mexico, conducting interviews with asylum seekers fleeing Central America into the USA while also investigating how Mexican cartels are moving into fentanyl smuggling and how they distribute the drugs across the USA.

James has worked as a writer for the former British foreign secretary, President, and CEO of the International Rescue Committee, briefing him before engagements at the UN.

James is an advisor to the Global Mayors Migration Council.

He is advising mayors in their efforts to establish the Mayors Migration Council, which is changing international policy around refugees and migration from walls and division to open, inclusive cities.

James regularly publishes articles for Foreign Policy and investigative pieces for Jane’s Intelligence Review and The New Humanitarian.

He gives interviews to leading outlets, including the BBC, Channel 4 News, and CBC Canada.

During his career, James also advised the International Monetary Fund on security and intelligence developments in the Middle East and North Africa, including following a coup in Egypt and the aftermath of terrorist attacks in Afghanistan.

He also worked for two leading intelligence advisory firms.

He has written risk assessments on terrorism and geopolitical issues for some of the world’s largest companies.

James holds a Master of Arts degree in International Relations (distinction).

James has traveled widely across the Middle East, North Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and South-East Asia.
