- Character Portrayals: Heeere’s Johnny!
Jim Malmberg a former award-winning television anchor / reporter, who was honored for both his news documentaries and investigative reporting.
When people ask Jim why he left television news for a career impersonating Johnny Carson, he explains that his decision was determined by what can only be described as his uncanny resemblance to “The King of Late Night”, both in sight and sound.
Jim says, “It was difficult getting my job done out in the field when people were constantly requesting a monologue.”
And, he adds, when his news director at the CBS affiliate suggested Jim might do his news anchoring as “Johnny”, Jim figured it was time to take the show on the road.
Besides, he says, “Studio cameras don’t laugh — or applaud.”
Jim has been performing as a Johnny Carson look-a-like, sound-alike, act-alike including the entire Carson “Tonight Show” format – with monologue, interviews, Carnac, Art Fern, etc.
Jim’s television news career included positions in Minnesota; Iowa; and Arizona.
His broadcasting honors include a Minnesota Associated Press award for news documentary, and an award from the Arizona Press Club for investigative reporting.
