George Washington “Father of our Country”
Thomas Jefferson, “Pen of the American Revolution”
Patrick Henry, “Voice of the American Revolution”
Washington and Jefferson were Presidents, and Henry refused his party’s nomination to succeed Washington as President. They were close friends, and at one time were all members of the Virginia Provincial Council.
It was Washington and Jefferson who seconded Henry’s motion to raise a militia (which ended in his famous Give Me Liberty of Give Me Death” summation speech).
They were strong proponents of religious freedom.
