- Michael the quintessential TV Mom: The Waltons
- The Waltons 40th Year Reunion: Miss Michael Learned
- Learned was nominated for six Emmy Awards & won three for her role of Olivia Walton
Michael Learned: The cast of the Waltons recently celebrated their 40th anniversary of the hit series that ran for a decade, making Michael the quintessential TV Mom.
Audiences could and still can relate to families living in the depression era. Though times were tough, much like today, Love and Sharing are abundant in this family.
An inspiring series of love, hope, and spirit, this deeply moving story goes far beyond the boundaries of time and place to reach out and touch everyone, everywhere. As a result of the show, which she had been told wouldn’t survive its first season, Michael Learned is not only one of television’s most recognized moms as Olivia Walton but has become a Four-time EMMY Winner and Golden Globe nominee, who has never been out of work since.
She recently and temporarily stepped into the role of Katherine Chancellor on the highly-rated daytime drama, The Young & the Restless, while veteran actress Jeanne Cooper took some time off. Learned’s familiarity with the daytime schedule, having appeared on General Hospital and All My Children made her an obvious choice.
Learned states that at the time she was cast in The Waltons, she had “hit rock bottom”. It was then, at age 32, that Learned realized she was an alcoholic. She decided to “get sober”.
Her journey has helped her grow as a human being. She was willing to go through more pain to get out of the pain. Discomfort can be a motivator for growth. She has changed, but she still is try to help people who want to be helped. She won’t “over help.”
