- An avid enthusiast of opera.
Paul Campion an avid enthusiast of opera, Paul has appeared on a number of television and radio programmes, frequently answering questions on celebrated subjects, including Enrico Caruso, Kathleen Ferrier, the Bach family and Gilbert and Sullivan.
Paul’s musical enthusiasms are clearly many and varied! They also include the era of Caruso at the Metropolitan Opera, and British opera during the 1940s and 1950s; but he does not neglect more recent aspects of the lyric art and is an ardent admirer of recently-forged operatic duo, Alagna and Gheorghiu. He has collaborated with EMI records on the compilation of CDs, has written booklet essays for recent operatic issues, and is an accredited reference in Grove’s Opera.
Paul speaks regularly to clubs and music groups around the country and is praised for the affectionate humour and freshness of approach that he brings to his subjects; his seven-lecture seminar on aspects of the recorded and video heritage of Glyndebourne Festival has been most warmly received, and future topics for his lecture circuit include La Divina: Maria Callas, the Woman who changed Opera. All his talks feature delightful recorded musical illustrations and he gladly accepts commissions for special-topic talks and articles for magazines, programme notes and essays.
