Sig Hutchinson, M.Ed.has been on the front lines of making communities healthy and livable for more than a decade. Sig used his powers of communication and public speaking to transform the region by leading four bond referendums totaling $140 Million Dollars for open space preservation, parks and greenways and continues to be politically active, including Chair of the Open Space & Parks Advisory Committee Chair of the Triangle Transit Authority and chaired the first Bicycle Pedestrian Task Force for the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization. Sig has also been the driving force in the region behind the creation of an expansive interconnected greenways system. Known locally as “Mr. Greenjeans,” Sig has been honored as “Tarheel of the Week” by the News & Observer and “Volunteer of the Year”.
Sig’s current interests include transportation, land use, greenways and open space preservation where his political and communication skills has County Manager, referring to Sig as his “Secret Weapon.” Sig has a B.A. from Texas Tech University; M.Ed. from the University of South Carolina. Sig Hutchinson career highlights are distinguished by his passion and experience as a professional speaker, consultant, and community leader.
With more than twenty years in sales training and leadership development, Sig’s experience includes working with thousands of sales professionals and hundreds of companies to increase sales and improve communication. His own personal business interests include insurance & financial services, property management, newspaper publishing and as a local radio personality. Sig chairs and is a member of numerous boards including the Open Space & Parks Advisory Committee, Triangle Transit Authority, Triangle Tomorrow and the Triangle Regional Air Quality Coalition. As a community leader, Sig has taken an active role with transportation, land use, open space preservation and environmental issues throughout the region. He has he has lead four bond referendum raising hundreds of millions of dollars for open space preservation, parks and greenways and as a result, has been acknowledged as “Tarheel of the Week” by The News & Observer. He chaired the Bicycle/Pedestrian Task Force as part of the 25 year long range transportation plan for the region’s Metropolitan Planning Organization; Chaired County Air Quality Task Force and as President of the Mountain Biking Association was responsible for creating more than thirty miles of single track trail throughout the region. Sig has been instrumental in building an interconnected greenways system stretching hundreds of miles throughout the region. He has received the Fred Fletcher awards from the City, the “Environmental Stewardship” award and is a Goodmon Fellow with Leadership. Know locally as “Mr. Greenjeans,” Sig has a BA in sociology from Texas Tech University and a M.Ed. from the University of South Carolina.
